Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty: A Timberdoodle Review
The kids and I still love checking the mail. I thought maybe I’d outgrow that daily hopeful walk to the mailbox. But as it turns out, I have not. Even when I am not anticipating any letters or packages, you just never know what you might find in the funny shaped tube at the end of the driveway. Receiving the opportunity to be a Timberdoodle blog reviewer – thanks especially to you guys! – has upped the fun factor in our mail checking days this year. I’ve got a pile of great curriculum and such to work through with the kids before I analyze and ponder our experience with each…

what lies ahead: adventure and the connection between the new ads and our family
Do you remember that time our family spent a year reading all of the Little House on the Prairie books? And how, at the end of that year, we loaded up the kids and drove north and then west and then some more west and then south and then east and made a big sloppy loop back to our home? It was a good good year loaded and piled with sweet and lasting memories and it’s lodged squarely and safely inside my heart. The next year we read through the Narnia series. (Which proved to be timely and profound and emotionally perfect for our hearts that year.) This year we…

A Grove Co. Giveaway You Won’t Want To Miss
Don’t you think Grove Collaborative is a much prettier name than ePantry? I do! (Although Berg says he thinks ePantry is better – more practical. More literal. Which makes sense as that eleven year old is one of the most literal human beings I’ve ever met.) But you know what? I like the name to be pretty just like I like my soaps and sprays to look pretty – and smell pretty too. I’m SO excited for you guys about this giveaway. It’s ALL of my favorites. Seriously. ALL of them. Look at that pack of beautiful goodness. (And you don’t have to choose the lavender scent, but I mean,…

Five Finds Friday (22) (buffs & cute hairstyles for my girls & extra photos)
FUNNY What my ten-year-old reads for pleasure. Some kids outgrow their mom in height by the sixth grade. My kid is going to outgrow his mom in brains by the sixth grade. FASHIONABLE Probably because of my die hard, long term commitment to the television show Survivor, I was introduced years ago to the buff. The buff is headwear that serves many many purposes. Some use it as a headband. Some use it as a beanie. Some as a neck warmer. Few use it as a tube top. I use it as my favorite head wrap for camping, sleep too late to shower days and just don’t feel like dealing…

Five Finds Friday (21) (strawberry suggestions, a hilarious video, great shoes and a movie review)
FUNNY Tripp and Tyler have a new video. It’s very funny – because it’s kind of true sort of. (Also – there’s a great cameo in there by a surprise celebrity!) (Another also. What does it say about me that I have zero point of reference for who Rayvon Owen is? As in – I have never heard his name before.) Anyway. You should watch it because you will laugh. And I don’t know any day that couldn’t be made better with more laughter. (I’m particularly fond of Tyler’s very deep v-neck and the name of the client on the phone in the last shot.) FASHIONABLE In our family we…

Mobi Max Math Game: A Review
(Cheers and party emoticons, you guys – it’s my first Timberdoodle review. Thanks to Timberdoodle I have the opportunity to receive this math game at no cost in exchange for my honest review – with opinions all of my own. The opinions — that’s the easy part!) Math and I aren’t BFFs so when I see anything that can make math seem fun or attractive or appealing — I’ll give it a shot. The Mobi Max Game arrived in the mail and the first impressions were of its cool packaging. Eh. Maybe fun packaging shouldn’t matter – but we all know, it does. The whale is cute, has a hook for hanging…

Five Finds Friday (ten) (blueberry muffins and cuddl duds)
So – here we go, Friday. FUNNY Jen Hatmaker. She’s so funny. I’ll stop talking about her one day, but I don’t know when. I’ll write a blog post soon that no one will read because I’ve talked about her too much. But I’ll still be reviewing her book For the Love which I finally finished listening to on audio version. She just makes me laugh. Her “thank you notes” are the best. (She says she stole the idea of them from a late night talk show host so I’ll steal the idea from both of them as I make up my own thank you note.) Thank you kitchen…

Free Products From ePantry
In my search for ways to generate extra income and to get free stuff that I already love, I came across ePantry. (That’s right – I’m just telling you like it is. I like deals and I like earning a little money and I like bartering for the products we use at home. It’s how I roll.) Whenever you want – at any old time – you can click on the ad banner on the sidebar over there (picture me pointing at it for you right now ) and order up your own supplies from ePantry. When you order anything after clicking through my link, I get referral points and referral…

Thumbs Up: A Game Review
After I wrote about the game YamSlam that the kids and I love to play, I sent the link to the people at Blue Orange games. They were so kind and they offered to send a game to our family to play and review. Well – who says “no, thank you” to games? Not me! Thumbs Up arrived at our house and finally, after all the holiday hullabaloo, we had a chance to play the game together. The kids had been already playing it on their own (albeit with some invented new add-on rules) but I hadn’t had the chance to play it with them. The directions are quick so…

Five Finds Friday (eight)
I didn’t do one of these little gems two weeks ago because it was Christmas day – and last Friday found us on another holiday – New Year’s Day. But I think I’ll proceed as planned today. FUNNY My funny seldom comes from the internet. (But I want to laugh more so if you know some internet funny that would crack me up – I’m listening.) But my funny comes a lot from my kids and that’s pretty acceptable to me. Probably my favorite Christmas gift this year was made for me by London. You know how sometimes you just hear some songs wrong and then…

Five Finds Friday (six)
I finally finished that article. Take that, procrastination. Piper keeps announcing how many days are left until Christmas and that’s making me feel a little antsy or unprepared or something because, maybe it’s the weather, but it doesn’t feel all that Christmas-y to me yet. Although we did tour some Christmas trees downtown this week and that helped us all to get in the festive mood I think. It’s Friday though now, friends – and that means ….. FUNNY It’s a great age when your kids are genuinely funny people. Not potty humor funny or toddler mispronounced words funny or teenager kind of ridiculous funny but just straight up seriously…

Yam Slam: A Game Review
It seems that lots of my favorite games are created by a company called Blue Orange. I don’t know who those guys are but I guess I like what they do. I should tell them I guess. But – first – I’ll just tell you. Yam Slam. This little game has been on the shelf for a while. On a girls day last month, we gathered a few supplies and left the house. (And by a few supplies, lately for the girls, that means loads of yarn and Warriors novels.) We stopped at a tea shop. Side note: Why aren’t there more of these? Tea shops for people like me who do…

try ePantry (there’s a free candle and a discount in it for you)
And so, just like that, Thanksgiving has arrived. I am planning to back slowly away from the screen and turn toward Yahtzee and Pit (have you guys ever played that one?) and coloring books and blank notebooks and answering yes when the kids say, Want to draw? Want to fish? Want to bake? Want to eat? Want to cuddle? (Especially the eating and the cuddling part. Can we eat AND cuddle? I like food. And I like sitting still. Win-win.) Before I leave you for the very long weekend, which sounds sooooo nice, I want to put a few things up here for you in case you are a Thanksgiving…
