If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. ― J.R.R. Tolkien

Five Finds Friday (tzatziki sauce. big feet. tats.)
I don’t think I conquered a Five Finds Friday post last week – maybe it was Farm Week? (It’s too hard to keep up.) This week has been oppressively hot. We’ve had theatre rehearsals and auditions and I am so glad for an organization like our local Logos Theatre where I feel good about my kids receiving both quality and safe instruction on stage. I’ve started staring at the lists of plans and books and ideas to begin to homeschool a FRESHMAN this fall and I feel both excited and horrified, capable and out of my league. I only have TWO children left in elementary school and…

Five Finds Friday (homemade herb dip, an Anne Review, and Otto spends money)
I’m grateful to the weather this week – although it’s been rainy and humid still, it has not been hot. And I, for one, will not complain about swinging into summer at moderate temperatures. What I’m not grateful for this week is the major snafu I had with my Travelers Rest Here website. Apparently the server for that website had a limit on emails you could receive. Although they never made me aware of said limit. And – what they do when you reach that limit is – nothing. They do nothing. They simply stop receiving your emails. And those emails disappear for eternity. And that’s not good for…

Five Finds (potty humor & ill fitting t-shirts & irresistible creatures)
It’s Friday! And it’s oddly cold in SC – but I am not complaining because it gives me an excuse to pull out the flannel shirt for another day. This weekend promises to be as pleasant and as full as this week has been and that’s worth a high five or two. funny Piper came home from theatre camp last month or so singing a new version of the “My Little Pony” theme song. It’s ridiculous and loaded with potty humor and of course, the occupants of my home found it endlessly amusing. (They taught it to their friends. It’s possible that their friends’ mother thought…

Five Finds Friday (good and bad drinks and one of my favorite novels)
This week has been less speedy, but not less full. Maybe it was the rain. The rain sloooooows me down. I’m sure the boys’ tomato plants are grateful for the rain, but it’s not my favorite thing. In the end, though, we made it to Friday . . . . funny This week we made iced tea for our weekly community dinner. Everyone had served almost all of the contents of the pitcher into their glasses when I poured the final glass of tea for Otto. Setting down the empty pitcher, I took a sip of my son’s beverage before I handed it to him. It.…

Five Finds Friday (Minty Timmy & Tuna. Not an appetizing combination.)
This week has been a catch up and refocus week. How is it that just one week off of your regular routine can really blast that routine into smithereens? It was ONE week, people. Hey kids, remember, we have a schedule? Apparently it only takes one week to forget everything we worked on ALL year. But, regardless, here we are Friday. How are ya’? FUNNY Here are some funny things: The writer Roald Dahl. The movie Holes. My children. FASHIONABLE Wouldn’t you know it? Earrings again. I don’t even know what Stella & Dot is but I’m guessing it’s another LuLaRoe, Pampered Chef, Norwex,…

Five Finds Friday (it used to be a quarter and strong backs)
Whew. It has been a full – but also a really good – week. I want to watch a movie Friday night. What’s something great that I’ll love? I want to watch it at home. I want it to be slightly meaningful but not an all out drama – less Still Alice and more Walter Mitty. I’d love to laugh and I don’t mind crying but I don’t want a romance that only glorifies lust and unfaithfulness, although a love story would not be a terrible choice. Hmm. I think I probably won’t be finding that perfect film. My expectations might be a little too high. But – anything…

Five Finds Friday (a homemade hamburger bun and a novel thrice read)
It’s been one of those weeks that has been both filled and empty. Both speedy and long. And now it’s over. (This week, I mean.) FUNNY You can have two funnies this week. Buy one get one free. The Lego Batman movie. It was indeed rather hilarious – even to a non-cartoon fan such as myself. And the second funny — In our small group this week there was a neat activity where everyone had a piece of paper with their name on it. The paper was passed around and everyone had a chance to write encouraging words or a sweet sentiment for that person on their…

Five Finds Friday (two videos & BBQ chicken & a full circle story)
At one point in this week I was like, “What?? It’s only Tuesday? No. I have lived more than two days already this week. It must be Friday.” So now here I am at Friday and I think this week took two weeks instead of one. What I’m saying is, friends, I don’t know how your house is faring, but it’s been a long week over at my house. I’m pulling into the weekend with an empty tank but hopeful for rest at the end of this week. FUNNY You might think I’m the funny one in my family. What? Someone might think that. I AM…

Five Finds Friday (nothing here except Rod Stewart and rings that might fall off)
Happy Friday everyone. (It’s been a good week – and a long week. But a productive week. And a mostly stay-at-home week which pleases my Stay At Home child immensely.) FUNNY Sometime during an evening of games and soft trash talk and bad jokes, some kid said some thing that made some other kid say “Some guys have all the luck” to which I responded, in a sing-song voice, “Some guys have all the pain. Some guys do nothing but complain.” (Which both ages me, of course, by making a reference to a Rod Stewart song and makes me wonder what on earth else is hidden…

Five Finds Friday (a word you may have to look up to define & a tiny ax)
“… it just seemed as if she were marking time while life rocketed past.” ― Soheir Khashoggi, Nadia’s Song FUNNY There are a lot of homeschool days that don’t shine like stars in the universe. There’s plenty of mundane and must get done and should have done better and how can you not already know this. I don’t feel like writing about those days today though. I’ll keep having to live them, of course, but I just don’t, at this second, care to write about them. Instead, this week at the dining room table, we had a genuinely funny homeschool moment. (And it was sorely needed…

Five Finds Friday (beautiful notebooks & acts of kindness & beef stew)
Well, well, well. It’s Friday, you guys. I think I forgot to write this post last week. I was enjoying myself too much with Sara and didn’t want to spend that time writing down words. Besides, we were too busy saying all the words. FUNNY When we took our family’s annual trip to Grove Park Inn to see all of the gingerbread house competitors we dressed in fancy clothes (I use that term fancy loosely, very loosely) and we ate lunch at the elegant Grove Park Inn overlooking the incredible mountains. Lunch is a buffet and the kids adore the excessive nature of all…

Five Finds Friday (why I can’t share all the funny things & merino wool)
It’s Friday. It’s also feeling like winter here. And by here, I mean inside my own house. The kids and I keep wondering, “Will our next home be warm?” And who knows? It might. FUNNY It’s about that time. My kids are about at that age. That age where what they say is inordinately hilarious. Where I laugh without reserve frequently at our conversations. But also at that age. That age where I can no longer share every hysterically funny comment they make. They’re getting older. Their access to the internet is still incredibly limited so they’re not necessarily ever reading my blog. But the tween…

Five Finds Friday (picking out a Christmas tree and eating Chinese food)
It sort of didn’t feel like Friday last week because I didn’t do one of these routine little posts. Funny how small habits keep you on schedule. But I’m all on track this week and there’s no holiday pushing at our backs so here we go ….. FUNNY I mean, I think my kids are funny. They think they are hilarious. It’s a daily something or other. From London adding to her school list: Be Awesome. (Oh wait. I’ve already conquered that.) To Bergen entering a room and telling us to forget we ever saw him taking whatever item he just took and then waving his…
