charmed.

It was on the calendar for a month at least.

Craft-y day with the ladies.

That’s the title I gave the day.

But before you can make crafts efficiently you have to fuel your body – right?

Goodness – we did.  Breakfast on the patio on a breezy comfortable Saturday morning with buddies.  Freshly made potato hash overflowing with goodies like mushrooms and topped with fried eggs.  Fuh-get-about -it.  Homemade scones.  Small enough to feel just fine to serve yourself more than one.  And yogurt topped with blueberries and honey roasted sliced almonds.  Delicious.

During the morning we chose little colored beads and strips of leather and created a really fun wrap bracelet.  They looked so easy – but bracelet making is way more challenging than you’d think.  Well, for me it was.  Direction following is tricky.  (For me – right?)

I brought along my mother’s battered old jewelry box and we sorted through it for a few little treasures.

I fell on a charm bracelet I had always admired – dangly little silver baubles.  I had frequently looked at it and never worn it because I didn’t care for the dangling-ness on my wrists.  For the first time it occurred to me to simply remove the charms.  No – I don’t know why the thought had never crossed my mind before.

That little charm bracelet provided me with lots of options.  There were several state charms – and, wouldn’t you know it – there was a Virginia state charm and a South Carolina state charm too.  Mom was born in Virginia but I can’t account for why she had South Carolina – I’ll just think of it as divine token for me.

I strung several of the little charms each on a single strand of twine making little necklaces of my mom’s memories for each of the kids.  Bergen’s is a little feather.  For Otto a tiny silver fish.  Mosely received a polished stone.  London’s has a tiny hatchet.

Piper’s little charm is an itsy bitsy space shuttle that pops open to reveal a super miniature astronaut.

Dad’s Otisco Fire Department silver badge was in the flotsam in the jewelry box and with a little braided leather and a button I made a rustic bracelet that I somehow really like despite it’s badge-ness.

It was a sweet day – charming, if you will.

Reading directions for (especially crafty things) something is hard for me too. I always have to ask Sarah to explain something to me while she’s following the directions and showing me visually. I don’t understand unless you show me visually.

      It really is.
Did you notice I gave you photo credits for your lovely addition?
Thanks for sharing – the day, the breakfast and the photo. Oh – and your grandmother’s beautiful buttons.
