Words on the wall

Kevin needed a desk in his upstairs office.

Our school room had three desks. It only seemed right to send one of those upstairs.

Moving that desk out naturally meant that I needed to rearrange the space to accommodate the change.

That, plus the acquisition of a long slim book shelf for $20 from a second hand shop. Also, this little treasure of a box for even less.

And, also, the obvious fact that I love a change was enough to propel me forward.

In moving the desk and locating the only wall long enough for the new bookshelf I realized I had to move my giant magnetic board. I put it in a more teachable location and purchased some magnetic words. Secretly, or not so secretly, I’ve always wanted these letters.

I decided to be a little quiet about the letters. No grand announcement, “Hey everybody, come look at the cool educational and fun words that I just purchased to subtly inspire you to love words and to have fun naturally with poetry. What do you think?”

I avoided saying any of that. Clever and mature, right?

But it has been just as I hoped it would be actually.

For a day or two, no one noticed or touched them really.  But them I spied a little of this –

and now are enjoying ludicrous poems that are cracking us up.

These magnets have the synonyms on the backs of the words, which is a little novelty I appreciate. (Yes, I bought them at Amazon.  And you can too!)

I find myself standing there sorting and pushing words together and cracking myself up too.

A solid school room addition I’d say.
