the situation here.
Our green second car died last week.
Really died.
It was a 1995 passed-down-through-the-framily Buick something or other.
I never really drove it anywhere.
It was funny looking – with dents in the side, glued on mirrors that couldn’t move and bullet hole stickers on the door. Riley tried to “cool-it-up” by affixing a half dozen trendy stickers for products she likes – shoes, gear, schools. You know – teenage signs of importance.
I don’t actually miss the car – although Riley seems to.
But goodness I missed what it provided.
The obvious – transportation.
Because Riley needs to attend school and Kevin needs to attend work, any priority I have had for leaving the house this week has taken a giant back seat.
(Having one car is probably a first-world problem. But that’s where I live and it is kind of a problem.)
It’s been a funny stay-at-home week.
Which is not really bad.
The only two times I have left our house this week (literally) are to attend small group one evening and to drive quickly down the road to retrieve our dog from a nearby(ish) “neighbor”. Apparently Ringo ran away and no one here noticed.
Truly, staying home all week is not that collossal of a problem.
But it is causing some amusing side effects.
Like a low and odd supply of groceries creating a mish-mash of dinners and lunches all week long.
Last night we had venison stew because I unearthed some venison deep within the recesses of our freezer.
I’ve discovered that only two large sweet potatoes actually make enough casserole for our whole family.
I made mac and cheese (if you would be so generous to call it that) with only mozzarella and parmesan cheeses.
I served my children the waffles I had made and frozen to give to a sweet friend/sister. (Those were for you Sarah – I’m so sorry!)
I was forced to share my genuine-from-Vermont-maple syrup that I had been hoarding for myself.
But guess what?
I’m on the docket to receive the use of the car this afternoon.
Hello grocery store – here we come!
(Tell me I’m not the only one who has eaten a bizarre collection of food in an attempt to stretch the budget or avoid the grocery store.)

we had one car most of the time we were at clemson, and some of the time we were in the mountains. It wasn't a big deal, so long as you planned.
ahem.
and i haave definitely eaten through the pantry so as to not have to take them all with me to the store…..though bryan is far snazzier a cook than i.
