date night last night.

Kevin and I try to take a weekly date night.

(This wasn’t always true in our marriage so I am exceedingly appreciative of the value we place on these evenings now.)

Money and childcare often stand in the way of a leave-the-house date night happening each week.

So we also aim to have one really good date night per month.  And the plan is that we are in charge of taking turns planning every other month.

And last night was Kevin’s planned night.

Which found us at a cool little venue downtown watching half of my top two of all-time favorite bands perform.

Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls.

I’ve been a fan since high school.  Back when I owned tapes and the Indigo Girls were a small duo from Georgia with the support of Michael Stipe on the background vocals.

And we were right at the stage level – could not have been closer.

The evening was so much fun.

I painted my nails!  (Something I haven’t done since maybe experimenting with it in high school.  Seriously.)  We ate dinner and watched the concert scene morph around us.

Although we had such a great time laughing and listening to Amy Ray rock out the mandolin and all six of her guitars, we had to also laugh at ourselves a little.

The concert scene was a fun one-night date, but Kevin and I both realized that it was not exactly our ideal backdrop.

The vibe, the increasingly crazy-town language our seat mates exuded as their drinks increased, the desperate dancing of some lonely girls.

Maybe we’re old and maybe we’re boring  – and that’s okay – but we spent half of the evening watching the show in front of the show.

And I’d really love to write a hilarious post detailing some of the strangers that we watched on the concert floor but everything I’d write would be mildly inappropriate.  So, if you see me – feel free to ask me to do a dance imitation of a few of our favorite Amy Ray fans and maybe I’ll oblige you!

But I still love Amy Ray – and her voice and songs are still incredible.

And I love date nights with this guy!
