HomeLife,  Mosely Ella Claiborne

Maybe I don’t clean enough after all.

I was reviewing some phonics with Mosely.

We were matching the drawing to the correct sound of the first letter of the item drawn.

Mosely finished three or four in a row by herself but was really stumped at one drawing.

She wouldn’t even make an attempt at a sound to match the drawing.

The drawing was a picture of a word that started with a “V”.

“Mosely, do you know what this drawing shows?”, I asked her.

“No,” she responded.

“What is this drawing Mosely?” I persisted.

“I don’t know Mommy,” she continued.

“Seriously?”

“No, I don’t.  What is it?” Mosely asked, quite in earnest.

Uh.

Do you know what the drawing was that my child did not recognize as she had clearly never seen one?

It was a vacuum.

so so funny! (p.s. I read and love your blog every day, but I usually don't comment because I read it in my google reader on my iPhone. it's wonderful and inspiring and thought provoking.)

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment.

I find that now that I have my iPhone I rarely comment on blogs that I follow any longer either.

      Thanks!

yeah, but you have wood floors….when would you need to use a vacuum anyway?
this also reminds me of the movie corrina corrina when the little girl spells vacuum h-o-v-e-r.

hahahahahahahaha I should play that game with Amber…she wouldnt know what one was either, or a broom or a mop for that matter..and don't even get me started on how she couldnt recognize an iron if it bit her!!
    That made me laugh!

Ironing is one of those tasks that I almost flat out refuse to do.

It is mostly pointless to me.

I think I remember my mom sort of enjoying it.

Of course- she was an obsessive house cleaner too.

I am sure she would have taught Mosely what a vacuum was.

My kids still think it sounds too loud. Apparently, their ears haven't adjusted to the normalcy of that sound. Oh wait, it would have to be running on a regular basis for that sound to be normal. So true, Lacey!

Yeah – the broom is so much quieter.
I wonder if they would recognize that either.
Just kidding – I am sure they know that one.
