when I think there’s nothing to write about, there usually is . . .
I’m still trying to devise some apparatus that increases the hours in my day.
Or blinders so I will ignore all the distractions that keep me from staying on task.
It keeps being midnight and I keep still having a lot that hasn’t gotten checked off my list.
I’ve been half heartedly listening to an audio book entitled Hands Free Mama and I think I audibly gasped when the author talked about literally throwing your to-do list in the trash. That feels like Crazy Talk to my brain. (But I’m still listening and thinking. Listening and trying to remain open to all I am hearing. We’ll see.)
I’m also reading through Teaching From Rest by Sarah Mackenzie and I think it’s going to become a favorite of mine but it’s so hard to find the time to finish the book. (Which I know is why I need the book in the first place.)
I’ve got my issues, people – alright? I’m not ignorant of them, but I am a little unpracticed in how to handle them I think.
My home is full of bizarre little sightings like this:
For some reason a fleet of Lego spaceships has taken up permanent residence in the crisper drawer of our fridge. (What is a crisper drawer anyway? What about the drawer itself keeps items crisp? Who makes up these names?)
The boys were in fishing heaven last weekend at the farm.
It was my rare and beautiful privilege to escort them to the pond and then to sit perfectly still and silent on the dock while they fished. They chatted. Compared lure choices. Discussed the Legos in the fridge. Talked about otters and dragonflies. Shared facts they have acquired from various reliable and less than reliable sources. Commented on a certain lure’s effectiveness. It was the most charming two hours of my entire week.
Mosely decided our glorious spring weather was the perfect time to break out the Keens.
I can’t stop the growing problem over here at Wildwood.
“Mom,” she informed me, “These shoes don’t even come close to fitting.”
She was right. They are at least one full size too small. Maybe two. She just stopped wearing them late last fall. What is happening here?
So I guess buy new shoes is now added on my to-do list. (You know, the one I am supposed to toss in the trash.) (Speaking of trash, I think the next time I need to buy a trash can I am just going to buy one of those industrial looking metal type trash cans – the one that looks like Oscar the Grouch could be hunkered down inside. I think that would both serve our family’s needs better and I think it would look sort of cool in its own gigantic silver way. Is that Crazy Talk too?)
This sunshine this week though?
It makes everything better.
Everything.
Math on the table under the magnolia tree.
Longer daylight for rope swinging.
Breakfast on the steps of the front porch.
It even makes Ryder happy.
(That dog loves the farm as much as we do.)
Also. Before I end this fireside chat tonight, look at this sweet nature journal entry my youngest ragamuffin created whilst on the porch early one Sunday morning.

I have the trash can. Go get one, you won’t regret it.
And I’m also reading the book. It’s speaking to the deep down soul of me like not many other things have in awhile. There is a downloadable journal also, along with several audio files to listen to that relate.
Oh and the nature journal entry? That’s precious. Would that I would pant as the deer for Abba.

Good to know about the trash can. I’m on it.
I saw on Pinterest someone painted one in a really cute color, put a fun fabric liner in it – and turned it into a clothes hamper. I also love that idea. I have a ridiculous wicker basket-ish clothes hamper that has actually pulled and torn some of my clothes on its broken wicker edges! Ugh!
Maybe there will be a two for one deal on metal trash cans.

I’m reading Teaching From Rest too. I heard her at the homeschool convention last weekend and was really filled up with encouragement.

So fun – maybe we can chat about it when we both finish.
Yes – I think she was a very encouraging speaker for sure.

I really enjoy reading your blog every day. Sometimes twice a day when you post old ones. You just have a way with words that makes me feel welcome and close. I feel like we are real friends instead of practical strangers who happen to know each other by name if we see each other. Strange how reading does that to you. You’re one of my favorite authors.
