Family Night

Wednesday evenings at our house have been officially retitled.

It’s a catchy one.

Wait for it.

Family Night.

Yeah, even I think I could do better than that for a name.  (I’m working on it, alright?  One can only be creative on so many levels similtaneously.)

For us, Family Night just means a night where we let the kids choose an activity that we can all do together.

Usually – they pick the meal as well.  (We’ve eaten one dinner consisting of macaroni and cheese as the main dish and mashed potatoes as the side.  Which I found perfectly acceptable.)

Recent Family Nights have involved Wii games, movies and Outburst (the kids just love the freedom of being allowed to shout at the dinner table I think.)

Last Wednesday night we served chicken enchalidas and then we moved the party outside.

According to London – we fulfilled a lifelong dream of hers.  (Life long. Six years strong apparently.)

We bobbed for apples.

We turned our tiny kid pool into an apple-bobbing mecca.  (Actually, that’s a gross overstatement.  We just poured a bag of apples in there and let the kids go crazy.  That’s all.)

Mosely was the first victor and it was not until we celebrated her speedy victory that we realized she did not understand the rules.  You can’t use your hands, Mo-Town.  Come on!

London had a tougher time (because she refused to cheat and use her hands or go for the stem as some of her other siblings may or may not have been guilty of doing).

But at last, through much perseverence, she met success!

We kept bobbing for a while.

Everyone left wet dripping footprints throughout the house as we headed in for dessert – the next dream come true, apparently.

Ice cream sundaes.

With loads of ridiculous toppings.

And where my husband thought this was a good idea.

Unfortunately, Otto did not protest.

In fact, this action might have been met with laughter and shouts of “Do it again, Daddy!” from big brother and sisters.

Here’s some of the kids’ ideas for future Family Nights –  bowling, skating, more macaroni and cheese, Chuck E. Cheese.

You and your husband are awesome parents to provide such a creative, inexpensive family night! I'll be curious to know if some of the "unacceptable" activities spill over into other days, but kudos to you for being so flexible!

Which ones were the “unacceptable” ones?

well – whichever ones they are – they probably do! 🙂
