Five Finds Friday (a song & a rug & senior photos)
It’s been a week of RAIN and work and heavy lifting in the parenting realm.
But here we all are – Friday.
Happy to have made it this far.
funny
I walked into my bedroom.
Waiting for me on the table was this character.
I said to my grinning son, “Where did this come from? Why is he on my table?”
Bergen laughed.
“Oh, you know. I thought he looked like Jason Sudeikis.”
fashionable
I feel intimidated by rugs. I love them in other people’s homes. I want them. But I have zero idea how to pick one out, how to know if it fits the space, how to commit to a color for that long and – also, why they are so expensive.
I had a can’t-pass-up opportunity to acquire a cowhide rug for a steal recently so I said yes!
It arrived this week and I basically am in love with it.
I named it, naturally.
This is its home for now, although I definitely see a move in its future to the living room.
But seriously, I never thought I’d be a cowhide rug person, but people can change – right??
flavorful
Last week Riley turned twenty-seven.
TWO DECADES PLUS SEVEN MORE YEARS.
That’s how old my oldest daughter is and I am unwilling to accept this number so this will be the last time I talk about it.
We all had dinner together and Piper and London were in charge of making the dessert.
They whipped up pavlova and it was SO delicious I now think I’ll be having it for my birthday request too.

This is our dear friend Jane.
She’s been taking pictures of our family since that senior up there was a mere five or six years old.
It’s too much to handle, isn’t it?
The way time keeps pummeling us into submission?
(You can see her work right here.)
One rite of passage London was not looking forward to was Senior Portraits. She consistently claims to be non photogenic and says she feels awkward in front of the camera. She couldn’t think of anything special for her senior session and she just wasn’t feeling it.
But I believed in Jane and her magical skills.
It helped that London landed on the exact perfect sweater just an hour or so before the photo session.
We forgot we had this vintage sweater stowed away. And when I say vintage – I mean vintage. This black and white fuzzy sweater was worn by MY grandfather and MY dad (who is 76 years old)! It’s the real deal and it looked perfect on her!
Jane had just the right location and the blooms were just perfect and the sun was just right and Jane truly perfectly captured what I would label The London Aesthetic.
I could share ALL of them but I’ll try to refrain and I’ll just choose two of my favorites at this moment.
She even grabbed a couple of both London and I.
faithful
Lately, it’s a song.
Josh Garrells.
That voice.
“Farther Along”
Farther along we’ll know all about it
Farther along we’ll understand why
So cheer up my brothers, live in the sunshine
We’ll understand this, all by and by
Tempted and tried, I wondered why
The good man dies, the bad man thrives
And Jesus cries because he loves em’ both
We’re all cast-aways in need of ropes
Hangin’ on by the last threads of our hope
In a house of mirrors full of smoke
Confusing illusions I’ve seen
Where did I go wrong, I sang along
To every chorus of the song
That the devil wrote like a piper at the gates
Leading mice and men down to their fates
Some will courageously escape
The seductive voice with a heart of faith
While walkin’ that line back home
There’s so much more to life than we’ve been told
It’s full of beauty that will unfold
And shine like you struck gold my wayward son
That deadweight burden weighs a ton
I go down to the river and let it run
Wash away all the things you’ve done
Forgiveness alright
Farther along we’ll know all about it
Farther along we’ll understand why
So cheer up my brothers, live in the sunshine
We’ll understand this, all by and by,
But still I get hard pressed on every side
Between the rock and a compromise
Like truth and pack of lies fightin’ for my soul
I’ve got no place left go
‘Cause I got changed by what I’ve been shown
It’s more glory than the world has known
Keeps me ramblin’ on
Skipping like a calf loosed from its stall
I’m free to love once and for all
And even when I fall I’ll get back up
For the joy that overflows my cup
Heaven filled me with more than enough
Broke down my levees and my bluff
Let the flood wash me
And one day when the sky rolls back on us
Some rejoice and the others fuss
‘Cause every knee must bow and tongue confess
The son of God is forever blessed
This is the kingdom and we’re the guests
So put your voice up to the test
Sing Lord, come soon
Farther along we’ll know all about it
Farther along we’ll understand why
So cheer up my brothers, live in the sunshine
We’ll understand this, all by and by.
