Five Finds Friday (face cream, Community and Carlos)
The days have been too full and the time has felt too short and I’m beginning to feel familiar again with that line from The Hobbit (I think) about feeling like butter spread too thin over toast. Or something like that.
This week I’ll make this list short and sweet because I am currently feeling ambivalent about writing. A word that was a vocabulary word this week for my class. And a word that I always thought meant that you felt indifferent about something. Turns out, the actual meaning is having both positive AND negative feelings about something. (Precision of language, right?)
funny
Maybe I’ve already mentioned it. But London and I have been watching the show Community. It’s on Netflix. We just watched the last episode of the last season last night and we are in mourning that it’s over.
It’s SUCH a quirky show. It’s so funny and clever and fast. It’s bizarre and a little self-serving and creative. It’s the sort of show that rewards its fans with inside jokes galore, loads of background gags that weave in and out of all six seasons and truly likable characters.
I’m actually not kidding when I say that I’m sad it’s over.
fashionable
I recognize that this doesn’t exactly fit the fashionable category, but I’m doing it anyway.
My neighbor told me about this new cream. She always does a lot of research and so I love trusting her thoughts and suggestions on topics I don’t take the time to research but wish I did.
It’s from a company called Tubby Todd and you can bet that name has gotten a lot of jokes around our house.
It’s called All Over Ointment and Myra first told me about it when we had that terrible sunburn recently.
She shared her tub and I ordered ours the next day.
It’s made a significant difference on eczema for one of the kids. It helped to heal the sunburn and to protect the new skin that came directly after the peeling stopped.
I’ve been using it at night as a face cream and I could tell a difference the next morning. (My skin feels softer and seems to be keeping more clear of break outs.)
I love it!
flavorful
If you find yourself in TR at lunch time, do yourself a favor and visit Upcountry Provisions and order their Warm Bacon Salad.
I think the name doesn’t do it any favors. But that salad.
Oh my word.
faithful
The internet being what it is – a vast wasteland at times and an oasis at times too – I think it’s helpful to share the good when we find it. (I guess you could say I feel ambivalent about the internet too.)
A refreshing fellow to follow is Carlos Whittaker.
He’s a writer and a story teller and his posts always make me think. They’re written in love and I think he handles difficult subjects with grace, maturity and kindness.
That’s knocking it out of the park these days.
feels
Bergen asked if he could borrow my phone to go find some photos of fall coming.
This is what he came back with.
I’m so ready for the cooler temperatures and the crisp in the air. I love chill mornings and a reason to drink hot tea.
We had chili for dinner tonight and I’m just thankful that autumn is on its way, slowly but surely.
