five finds friday (superstore, fly fishing, sloppy joes)

I’m going to take your word for it that it’s actually Friday. Alright?

I can’t seem to get the kinks worked out of this blog lately. Some updates need to happen, I thought I handled them – I don’t know.

I just know that when I share these posts on Facebook the photos are not appearing as they should. Right now though, I’m just shrugging my shoulders and wishing it would all get square on its own accord.

funny

When I like something I tell everyone I know about it. Is that an enneagram type?

Often I am guilty of telling you about it at least four times. It’s a wonder I have any friends at all. They have to hear so many repeat stories.

So, maybe it’s a broken record sort of retelling here, but you know what I am finding very very funny these days?

A silly TV show called Superstore.

It’s so funny that I want to stay up late and binge watch every episode. I want to not do my job and instead watch TV.

It’s about a giant retail store that we all know is basically Walmart.

And you know how I started this post with saying that I tell everyone about anything that I love?

Recently I was in the actual Walmart (gasp) and I was trying to find a bike for my son’s Christmas gift and suddenly no store had 24 inch bikes anywhere. I had already been to Target where they were sold out. And now Walmart didn’t have any. Except the worker kept saying his computer said they existed there. He was the most pleasant Walmart employee I have ever encountered. And that evening I had already encountered at least three who were less than pleasant.

So as Walmart Employee and I were searching the store for a 24 inch bike I even asked him if he had watched Superstore. He had. And that began a conversation about how accurate the show was to his real life experience as a Walmart employee. He laughed and informed me that real life Walmart was probably even more ludicrous than TV Walmart.

Anyway. We found the bike – it was in the garden center.

And you should watch Superstore. It’s real funny.

I still love my vain eyelash extensions.

The end.

flavorful

Mosely, London and I are doing a modified Whole 30 for the month of January. (It’s only Day Two and I miss sugar. Sugar is my friend.)

This new and improved Sloppy Joe recipe was what we served up for dinner last night. It’s so good that it’ll be in the regular rotation, Whole 30 or not.

I did make some alterations. I doubled it but I used one pound of beef and one pound of sausage. That was a good choice. I also added in a giant can of diced tomatoes and more tomato paste than the recipe called for.

It was a hit with everyone and it‘s a good thing I doubled it because we only had about one serving leftover. Of course, you end up eating more when there’s no bread on the table.

faithful

Our family spent New Year’s Eve at our home with a bunch of dear friends.

Goodness, it’s such a gift to know those people.

The laughter was loud and the games were silly. Everyone was a good sport and the company was just so perfectly wonderful. It’s a gift I will never take for granted – good and kind and faithful humans that I get to call friends.

feels

Last week I was able to let my boys reap a bit of the rewards of owning a local small business.

The three of us spent HOURS on the edge of a river, wading in a river, learning how to fly fish with two guides.

These guides were fantastic. They were funny and kind. They LOVED fishing and teaching my boys more tricks and tools and they were all around good humans. The four of them talked about lures and fishing and waterways and I don’t even know what else. We had an excellent lunch by the river under a tarp – steak and fruit and cheese and brats and more.

My own fellas smiled and were all into it – for hours, I tell you. Bergen had received waders as his Christmas gift this year and he was pumped to try them out. They worked like a charm – even floated him along a little when he nearly washed down the river. He also caught his first ever fish on a fly rod.

It was a good good day.

One of those days I feel lucky to experience with my sons.
