Hey Clay: A Timberdoodle Review
This is a review post. I was given this item by Timberdoodle in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are for sure and for certain my own.
The fascination of clay never gets old. (Basically, I’m saying that the magic of Play Dough is ageless.)
Like I mentioned in my Plus Plus review, any item – toy, game, educational tool – that can engage all the ages at my house is a big it with me.
And although maybe my teens wouldn’t confess to enjoying Play Dough, somehow calling it clay changes its acceptability.
Actually, this is called Hey Clay and it’s available at Timberdoodle.
This Hey Clay has a different texture than Play Dough. It’s not the texture of the endlessly popular slime or foam or moon sand (there are so many options like this currently). It’s a lighter, more malleable material that I’m having a hard time putting words to. It’s not so crumbly and it’s not so prone to getting in your carpet.
This Hey Clay kit is one of many varieties sold by Timberdoodle.
It’s a wide assortment of colors in small plastic containers that stash neatly and conveniently back in the box.
The open ended play of Hey Clay is another reason to love it. Plus, just like the Legos and the Plus Plus, this is great for read aloud and quiet play. It’s the perfect choice to have out at the table for the younger kids before dinner or after dinner. It encourages creative thinking and independent ideas but even for kids unable to think through creative ideas as easily, they can just enjoy shaping it into the classic snake and spheres and it’s still a great activity to keep hands busy while minds listen.
This Hey Clay encourages you to create some specific styles – ours were animals. There are some step by step guides and there’s even an app that will lead you through creating other animals. Some kids will really like that exact guided process.
Once you’ve formed the perfect animal – or taco, if you’re Piper – you can air dry the creation. That takes about 24 hours. (When my kids were younger they spent hours creating clay food for their Calico Critters. Makes me sad to think those days are mostly behind us.)
