Frankincense – a little educating (but not by me)
It’s been more than I year since I signed up with Young Living and started down a road of trying to proactively learn more about essential oils.
Truthfully, in most ways I have done next to nothing to use Young Living as a way to earn money. But I have been building up my own collection, selling to a few friends, and learning more and more at the snail’s pace at which I learn anything new these days.
And that’s a-okay with me. (I mean, hey – I’m not opposed to alternative revenue streams, right Dave Ramsey? But, I also know my own limitations on time and energy during this portion of my life and I am mostly doing the best I can with where I am. So – if you want to send your essential oil money my way, nobody in this house will complain about it. But you won’t see me pressing hard for that right now either. I’m full on adopting the “it is what it is” mentality of my life currently.)
But throughout this year of slow, incremental learning, my friend Bri has been my steady. A go to text with a quick question. A word of encouragement and just a calming person, she’s great.
It finally occurred to me to ask her to tell you all about her favorite oils like she tells me.
So – let’s learn today about frankincense. (By the way, she sent this to me last week and since then the girls and I have been using it on our skin and – what do you know – I for real see a difference in blemishes. How handy!)

Frank, Please Help my Nervous System
By Bri Horlings
I struggle with anxiety.
Which really annoys me. I consider myself a fairly strong person, but our brains can’t reason ourselves out of emotions, and emotions are powerful. Especially those pesky negative ones.
And, our negative emotions, if not faced and dealt with, can lead to anxiety.
Several tools that I use when I feel panicky flare ups are:
– deep breathing: Count of 5 breathing in, count of 5 holding the breath and count of 7 to let the breath out
– speaking truth out loud: “I am loved.” “I think abundantly.” “I am enough.”
– and essential oils, especially frankincense
Frankincense is powerful for emotional support. I know, essential oils to help with emotions sounds pretty far fetched, I thought so too for the longest time. I wasn’t even willing to give them a shot because ….. please. But, when I knew that I needed tools to help me I thought FINE, give these crazy things to me.
What I found was when I applied frankincense essential oil it made me feel more grounded and rooted, less scattered and worthless. When I apply frankincense, I feel more capable and things feel more possible. I can’t explain it, I just know what I feel.
Some fun frank facts:
HISTORICALLY—
Frankincense was used during sacrifical ceremonies to God and it was given to Jesus as a baby.
WHY USE IT?
– Frankincense is high in sesquiterpenes which stimulates and oxygenates the limbic system of the brain which helps to elevate our mood and helps us relax.
– It has an earthy, uplifting aroma that’s perfect for grounding and spiritual connectedness.
– It creates a safe and comforting environment when you diffuse or inhale this empowering oil.
– Mood support… CHECK
– Skin support… CHECK
– Immune support… CHECK
– Sleep support…. CHECK
- There is nothing this oil cannot do. Really. If you got 99 problems… Frankincense can probably rock 98 of them.
WHERE IS IT FROM?
Young Living’s frankincense is harvested from frankincense trees in Oman where the harvesters have perfectly white and straight teeth from chewing on the frankincense resin…..interesting, huh?
WHO MAKES IT?
Please don’t buy so called “essential oils” from the grocery store or Amazon or Target or really any other company. Only use Young Living essential oils because they are the only company who:
– encourages you to visit their farms
– doesn’t add anything to the oil
– gives you a promise of safety, standards and purity called Seed to Seal.
HOW SHOULD I USE IT?
Here are 6 of many ways to use frankincense:
1. Add a drop to your toothbrush before brushing for great oral care.
2. Put a drop onto your wrists and right where your neck and the back of your head meet for emotional support.
3. Drop a few drops onto your wrists for immune system support.
4. Add a drop to your facial moisturizer to support beautiful, bright and clear skin.
5. Massage onto your feet after a long day to help the day float away.
6. Put 20 drops in a 10 ml. roller bottle, fill with a carrier oil and give to your child for any school jitters. Just roll onto wrists when needed.
Essential oils aren’t a trend or a fad and they’re not another thing that you need to just consume.
They are God given tools that come from plants that He designed and created to support your bodily systems.
Because He made you to thrive.
So, I’ll grab all the essential oils that I can, especially the amazing frankincense, that comes in the beginner’s oil kit, which is dope.
Never underestimate the power of one drop of Frankincense oil.
