weekend ramble (a short list accompanied by zero pictures)
Is it actually a blog post if you don’t use any photos?
You tell me.
Here is what I did this weekend, in part:
- Felt burned out, exhausted and comatose. Tried to compensate for said feelings by spending my Friday night lying perfectly still eating strawberries dipped in Nutella and catching up on This Is Us. (I’d stopped watching for a while and was quite behind. Because – good grief that show is emotionally draining. But. It was also somehow emotionally rewarding. Like – space to cry for problems that weren’t my own and, I don’t know, it’s a TV show I know, but it’s just plain old good writing.)
- Spent Saturday going slowly, saw a few friends, baked cookies, made a grocery list, did some house chores. Just gathered my senses again in a semi-decent order.
- Found myself seriously engaged in watching a Kentucky basketball game – like my good old college days.
- Played a rousing round of Spicy Uno and laughed genuinely with my girls and my friends and that was like breathing good air.
- Read lots more chapters of Circle of Light by Madeleine L’Engle. Turned down so many pages and underlined so much. I find myself referencing that novel in multiple conversations daily.
- Watched The Return of Mary Poppins. It was a sweetly satisfying and charming movie going experience.
- Spent literally more than an hour in traffic on Woodruff Road and wondered why I ever drove there on a weekend.
- Baked a lemon loaf cake and made peach crepes and remembered that cooking for my people is pleasant.

Sounds like time well spent, except for the Woodruff Rd. part. Love Madeleine L’Engle.
