weekend ramble (why daylight savings time is my enemy and some fireplace advice)

My brain is not engaged in any sort of holiday mode.

And yet, Thanksgiving happens NEXT WEEK and we all know it’s just a fast rolling downhill snowball to Christmas and the new year right after that.

But that’s alright.  Like all things, it’s coming whether we are ready or not.

I do love traditions though and Thanksgiving and Christmas sure do hold an awful lot of good ones.

What I do not particularly love about this time of year is that blasted time change.

You. Guys.

When it gets dark before I have even started getting supper ready, I feel the need for hibernation.  I loathe leaving the house at night during this season.  All I want to do is stay at home every night starting at 5 o’clock.  The end.  I could be a bear.  Or a raccoon.  Wait – do raccoons hibernate? I don’t know.  I just think they’re cuter and better received than bears.  Whatever.  The point is – I don’t want to leave my house and I sort of wish all evening activities shut down from November til spring.

And speaking of holidays and good cheer and all that.  If you’re shopping Amazon this year (and isn’t that basically all of us?), then I’d just love it if you would click through my link before you order.  You can find the link RIGHT HERE.

It’s always up on the right hand side of my page and all you have to do is click that link and then just shop as you normally would shop.  This gives me a small kickback on anything you order.  And although it is small – I think like 1 percent  or .1 percent or something tiny – it really does add up to help out when all of you do your routine ordering this way.  So thank you for any time you ever remember to click through the link.  I legitimately appreciate it!

In other ramblings . . .

You know my pretty little fireplace?

Well, a couple weeks ago I had it inspected for safety to see if Bergen and I could live our dream of an open fire in our hearth instead of just in our hearts.  Turns out, that fire is staying inside of our hearts.  The fireplace is deemed Unsafe for actual use, even gas logs.  And that’s alright.  The cost of getting it up to code and up to being a safe home to dancing flames is far beyond my ability to pay.  So, alternatives it is.

Currently I am researching ethanol options and electric options.  I’d love to not just have it as a decorative candle holding spot, but if that’s what it comes to in the end, then so be it.

In the meantime, I’d love to cull your collective brains and hear your thoughts.

What would you do with this fireplace?
