A List of Things We’re Into Lately
Dried apples.
Who knew they would suddenly taste so good and crispy? Turns out – on this Whole 30 journey – I miss chips. And popcorn. Crunchy things. I like food textures apparently and a carrot has a crunch but it still lacks something I like about a chip. Anyway. Currently dried apples are working out pretty well. But they cost more than chips. Lame.
That Whole 30 Energy Boost Phase.
A pleasant surprise – days 14, 15 and 16 have been all amped up. I feel like I can DO THINGS. Lots of things. Give me things to do – I’ll do them. Is this energy boost enough to make me swear off chocolate cake and banana pudding for life? Nah. But it’s nice to feel so bright and alert.
All About the Washingtons.
It’s so hard to find a show that all six of us want to watch. The boys are all about fishing shows and animal shows and such and my word, NO ONE else is. How many episodes of Catching Monsters or Blue Planet can any one human endure? I don’t know but I think I’ve reached my limit. I decided we should try a new Amazon series called All About the Washingtons. It’s a show about a family – the dad is a former rapper who has recently retired – and he and his wife have four kids. Think Family Ties. (Am I the only one who was in love with Alex P. Keaton?) It’s clean and funny and endearing and goofy and a little cornball, but also some serious laugh out loud parts in every episode. There’s just one season and that’s a shame because it’s an awful lot of fun to watch.
Routinely Washing Our Sheets.
I’ve joked that moving has changed me. And, in lots of ways, it actually has. In the realm of sheets – it has for certain changed me for the better. Now sheet washing is on a rotation and it is glorious to more regularly get into freshly laundered sheets and to know the kids are doing the same. I’ve just added it to their Saturday chore list. Who am I? And where was I before?
Soup.
It’s autumn – and today ALMOST felt like it. And I heart soup. Also, soups are really easy to make Whole 30 approved and yet everyone at the table still likes it. Hooray! We’ve had sausage, kale and potato soup. Twice I think. We’ve had turkey squash chili and beef stew and tomato soup and this week I want to try chicken noodle soup – minus the noodles, which is a shame of course – and taco soup, minus the corn and without the corn dippers on top, also with no sour cream. On second thought, maybe I don’t want taco soup this month actually. Chips and guacamole are a thing of beauty and it would indeed be tragic to go through the rest of my life without them.
