The Weekend Ramble (birthdays & packing)

School is out!

And just in the nick of time.  We’ve got packing and birthday partying to do this week.

Seriously, whenever I am on a break from teaching I still find my days to be full and at the end of the day I wonder, how would I have ever found time to teach on this day had it been required?

I’m grateful for a job that allows me to work on the road.  Imagine how productive I could be if I was in the passenger seat – which will actually happen too soon so I’ll be patient.  Also I get car sick when I read so I assume I would still get car sick if I was typing too.  Besides, I hear the rate for insurance for teenager drivers is out of this world and I know I should remember that price from Riley but I have already forgotten it.

We celebrated Maddox’s birthday this weekend and who can believe that he is already THREE??  He had a sleepover with us and he’s just a sweet and polite little guy who loves to watch the chaos at our dinner table and he takes the conversation so seriously and is endlessly amazed at the cows in the field in front of our home.  (Lately we’ve been using this stack of Table Topic cards during meals and the results have been quite entertaining.)

While prepping to pack for the kids it was discovered that swimsuits don’t fit and the supply of appropriate shorts is woefully low and why do we own so many stained t-shirts that no one should wear in public and it seems bizarre to add in a bag of winter jackets but history has taught us to be prepared for all seasons.

Also.  And unrelated.  Having teenage daughters makes it fun to delve into the world of cheesy romantic comedies.  And also. It has been discovered that the later the hour when said movies are watched, the more amusing the commentary from London becomes.  I laughed so hard at something she said that I wanted to reverse the movie to catch all that I missed while laughing so hard.

It’s going to be a good week.  Adventure is out there.  And packing for it is sort of exhausting.  I’m crossing my fingers that the rental car situation redeems itself this go round, that no one will judge me for the number of shoes I think I “need” to pack and that our audio books will be entertaining.  (Is it too much to hope our rental car is black?  I love black cars.)

I’m not sure how much I’ll update the blog as I travel.  Some nights it works out well to post, some nights it does not.

It is easy to Instagram, however.  And if you think I’m over posting there, well – I am sorry.  It serves as the most convenient of all scrap books via the genius of Chat Books so I will be documenting with that in mind.  Plus, I just recently embraced the “story” feature.  It’s what I do.  Everyone says, “Try this new thing”  and I say, “No”.  Then I wait a while.  Then I try the new thing.  Then I usually love the new thing.  And am late to the game.  Like Voxxer.  And now the story feature on Instagram.  Whatever.  At least I’m consistent.

What I’m saying is – if you feel like following along, Instagram is probably the best place to do that.
