Five Finds Friday (running on empty & a grey t-shirt)
In a way these weekly routine posts just make my days feel like they are in fast forward.
But whatever. It’s Friday again.
FUNNY
You know – this one doesn’t rank up there as Funniest Week I’ve Ever Lived. (What would that week look like? I want to know.)
But do you know who is funny?
Jim Gaffigan.
Jim Gaffigan is funny.
And pretty much mostly he’s clean. Even better. So go listen to Jim Gaffigan if you want to laugh.
That’s all.
No link even.
I think you know how to use the internet by now anyway.
FASHIONABLE
I’m cool with the fact that this week’s fashionable entry might take me down a notch in your eyes.
This is a totally niche market article of clothing but I am pretty much a niche market kind of a human.
Charlotte Mason is the woman behind my homeschooling philosophy and her British school’s motto is our Wildwood motto too.
So I already love her. And her ideas. And the color grey.
Naturally, then, I love this shirt.
Hey Dad – if you want, you can order this for me for Christmas. Or, you know, you can just hand me the money and I’ll order it for myself and say it was from you. The usual – right?
FLAVORFUL
If it’s not been a week for funny, it hasn’t been a week for flavorful either. It’s been more of saltines and toast and grape juice kind of week.
So for today’s flavorful and because I heart autumn, would you guys share your favorite fall recipes in the comments?
For me fall is all about the soups but I want to know what you love to make as the days begin (soon – right?) to get cooler and the nights have an edge of crisp to them.
FAITHFUL
Whilst living the late night life with multiple kids throwing up in three directions I had a little time to think. (Because I surely couldn’t maintain my level of care for my children if I only thought about the vomit piling up in bowls around our home. I needed the mental distractions. Fine. I’ll try to stop speaking about bowls of puke. I promise I will.)
Mainly my thoughts drifted to injustice.
The piles and loads of it. The injustice building up like the barf. (Alright. I’m sorry – another reference!)
All the injustice — In my small life. And in our community. And in our world at large playing out in a hundred million ways.
Frequently when I dwell on thoughts of injustice, my heart leaps to anger and then some sort of hopelessness all sloppily combined.
But during this thinking time, I just keep picturing a God who sees.
A God whose eye is on me. Whose eye is on the lives of each and every one of my beloved six children. On my son-in-law. On my toddling grandson. And on my unborn grandson.
A God who sees.
A God who sees all the injustice and makes a promise.
He promises, “I will make all things right.”
And I am choosing to believe that with my entire being.
FEELS
This kid is growing up but I still love the stuff he and his brother are producing.
He’s funny and right on.

Chili…came in from a L.O.N.G. day of cutting down a giant tree, dragging and burning the brush, cutting and stacking the firewood portions to a crock pot full of spicy, hot, ready-to-eat chili I’d had the vision to prepare at 3-way-too-early-30 this morning. Delicious! Hoping your beloved Littles are back to their healthy selves by now and that you haven’t fallen victim.

There’s nothing like planning and hard labor to make food taste SO good.
And yes! We are feeling SO much better and (although I am scared to say it out loud) I have miraculously avoided falling victim. Thanks so much!

And. That kid president video should be required watching for every human on this earth–particularly those of us who claim to walk after the Man of Peace.

This isn’t really a recipe but is amazing considering its simplicity. Raw apple slices mixed with a teeny bit of sugar and ample amounts of cinnamon. I love these!
Soup-yes! I’m so ready for soup days.
