Five Finds Friday (24) (playing dangerously & a shortcake recipe)
The Fridays – they just keep coming so fast, don’t you know?
FUNNY
As he rushes past me through the dining room Otto shouts in proclamation —
“TRUTH! Never run with scissors.”
I stop what I am doing and ask, “Otto. Are you running with scissors?”
A quick pause of his rapid foot movement. “Yes.”
FASHIONABLE
I know I have shared something from title nine before but their clothing is just so fun and functional and I wouldn’t mind owning almost any of it.
Most of their skirts have shorts sewn into the base of them and I love that as I prefer wearing skirts all summer instead of wearing shorts.
I think this one is especially cute.
And guess what store has a brick and mortar presence in Colorado Springs?
Yep.
Title Nine.
Will I be able to convince the kids to politely hang out while I try on clothes and scour sales racks? I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve as “encouragement for patient waiting behavior”. After all, this isn’t my first rodeo.
FLAVORFUL
You guys – the strawberries are so very delicious this season.
I’ve yet to actually go pick any with my own two hands but I have used these two hands to pick up a multitude of already picked buckets from our local strawberry patches. (And I am grateful for whatever two hands had already picked those.)
I pulled out an old favorite recipe for the base of a strawberry shortcake dessert recently.
The name is — weird.
Hot Milk Cake.
(And my cook book is filled with notes – it’s the one I hope gets passed among my children.)
It looks weird too.
But underneath all that homemade maple syrup-sweetened whipping cream and fresh local strawberries, ain’t nobody care what Hot Milk Cake is called or what Hot Milk Cake looks likes.
All anybody cares about is how incredible it all tastes.
FAITHFUL
This song was played recently at church.
I went home and download it that afternoon and have been listening to it over and over.
FEELS
For Christmas a wonderfully sweet and generous friend gave ALL of us our own Chick-fil-A calendar with those little cards that give you a free surprise each month.
The kids love carrying their cards in their wallets – it makes them feel kinda big. All except Otto that is. He lacks a wallet. He keeps trying to use an old checkbook holder as a wallet. But then, you know, all the coins float right out. It’s sort of sad. Actually, as I type this I feel bad for the guy. Well. His birthday is right around the corner. I think I just landed on a good gift for him.
Anyway.
Some months it’s a sweet tea or a free fries.
But this month – man, the kids hit the jackpot.
Milkshakes.
A rare treat indeed as I have never before purchased every single child their own individual milkshake at Chick-fil-A.
They were celebratory.

This recipe brings back memories of Sunday afternoon tea with our children, because I used to make this. Thanks for the memories, and I think I need to resurrect this during strawberry season!

I think even 4 year old Drew knows every word to Good Good Father. It’s been on repeat many times in my van. 🙂

I have had Good Good Father on repeat here for about the last ten days and it is so stuck in my head which is wonderful. I have felt so cared for and carried by those words.
