monday mayhem. or – life.
I decided today I didn’t have time to think of a blog post with a beginning, a middle and an end.
And sometimes I think about skipping writing on days like this.
(And sometimes I do.)
But then I remembered that I’m the writer of this blog and I make the rules on this tiny square footage of blogosphere.
(I also make up words too. If I feel like it.)
So I think I’ll just write about whatever I feel like because I like that.
And because some days there is no tidy beginning, middle and end.
Just life.
Messy and hard and true and good and stinky and rainy and loud and misdirected.
The kids have created a birthday party upstairs for their Legos and we spent a good day together despite the cold December rain (which isn’t actually all that cold) and I have a couple of minutes in a quiet dining room with a sleeping dog.
Today the Christmas paper chain directed us to bake.
So we did.
Marshmallows of the homemade variety. (Why? You ask. I don’t know. That’s a good question.) Homemade hard tack candy. Homemade yeast rolls. Homemade play dough that looks like oranges and smells like oranges. Homemade peanut butter play dough which looks like peanut butter and tastes like peanut butter and I think London wanted to make that one just to have an excuse to play with your food before you eat it. Homemade chicken noodle soup.
We had more failures in the kitchen than successes today but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
We tossed in math and literature and called that enough school for one day.
Otto took his breaks with Ryder on the floor.
I am the exact opposite of a fan of these early early dark days. I feel like it’s bedtime only to discover it is 6 o’clock and I never want to leave the house after 4 p.m. any more.
The weather has been ridiculously pleasant – except for today – and I am so grateful for sunshine that it’s only sort of bothering me that it’s spring weather in December. However. The lack of a chill in the air and the guarantee that snow is not in our near future does make Christmas seem a little off this year.
Some topics I want to write about soon are: a movie the kids and I watched a few weeks ago that I really liked. That’s actually all I can think of.
Maybe you guys should tell me what I should write next. Because I’ve been feeling kind of indecisive lately.

No idea on what to write. I always enjoy reading other family’s menus cause we are so much in a rut with what we eat here.
I kept the tree lights on most of the day just to dispel the darkness. This was very much not me since my frugal self hates wasting electricity just for the fun of it. I feel like I am back in Florida with this weather even though we have been here for 22 years.

Yes – I keep the tree lights on too. But it’s because I love the tree lights on. I’ve actually been keeping them on all night this year because it cheers me up to walk up to twinkly lights in the morning.

Something that makes me want to start school on these dark mornings rather than just stay in bed….
Holiday traditions we can start. For example, your Christmas paper chain that tells you to bake..?
Ways to keep Jesus’ birth fresh and exciting in the minds and hearts of our children (and our own)
I hope you meant it. I have plenty of ideas for YOU to write. 🙂

Yes – I meant it.
Send me more ideas! I love these!
