Ice Pop Makers: A Review & A Giveaway
Ah summer.
I know we think of summer as ending when the yellow buses start driving the roads and altering our schedules.
But the calendar says summer isn’t over until mid September and the day time temperatures haven’t dipped into the 70’s yet so I think we can still treat these days like summer days in a couple of ways.
Sure, the kids are back in school and the late nights have abruptly halted and the free flowing, free living, free thinking attitudes have been put to slumber and schedules and routines are rising back to the top of the pecking order.
But – you guys – there are still popsicles.
My kids love popsicles.
But popsicles in the frozen aisle at my local grocer pose a couple of problems for me.
First, they melt before I get home because I always seem to have other errands and a long drive and stuff happening between my freezer and the grocery store.
Second, lots of popsicles are sold in boxes of four. Especially the really tasty ones made with whole fruit and lacking in the variety of odd colors and food dyes.
Third, popsicles are pricey. Particularly when you have to buy two boxes for your five children.
Enter the magical world of Amazon and reusable silicone popsicle containers.
Hello Food Works Ice Pop Makers.
We love these.
We love them so much we own two sets of them.
They’ve been around our house and in our freezer for several summers.
I have no idea what has taken me so long to think about writing a review for them.
(Ha. No idea, she laughs. No idea, indeed.)
But here I am, telling you about them now.
We’ve made smoothies and poured them in for smoothie popsicles. We’ve done orange juice and chocolate milk and whatever juice you can think of.
Usually, we buy one container of strawberry lemonade at Trader Joe’s for about $2.98 and then we can fill all twelve of them up about three times for a total of eight cents each!
You heard that right. EIGHT cents per popsicle.
Shoot, you’re practically making money when you buy these popsicle molds.
You might be thinking that some silicone popsicle mold place told me to say all this stuff about their product.
But it’s funny how this worked out.
We bought our first round of these holders last summer or the previous summer. I don’t remember when.
A charming child of mine left one red popsicle mold outside this year. The dog ate it. And then we started talking about how we could never have popsicles to share with our friends. So. We ordered a new set. Lo and behold, there in my inbox of my electronic mail is a letter from the FoodWorks Ice Pop Makers who created the product I ordered and I’ve been writing about here, randomly asking me to please post a review on Amazon of my recent order. (Plus sending me several tasty looking popsicle recipes.)
I noticed they were a small company so I just sat right there and e-mailed them back. I sang the praises of their product and told them how I was already planning to write a review on my blog and I asked them if they’d be willing to share a free Ice Pop Makers set with one of YOU guys – my lucky readers – today.
They said yes!
And that’s why I am trying to make summer last just a few more days (or weeks) and letting you in on the fun and convenience of owning your own Ice Pop Makers.
Here’s how you can be the reader to take home the prize to your very own freezer.
Leave a comment below to be entered to win. (one entry)
Share this on Facebook to earn an entry. (one entry) You’ll have to leave an additional comment to let me know you shared it.
And that’s really as easy as it gets.
I keep meaning to bring together the worlds of homemade ice cream and Ice Pop Makers by attempting a chocolate chip mint ice cream popsicle. Is that a thing? Can I do that?
Also, when Jane was snapping pictures last week she took what is probably the sweetest popsicle photo the world has ever seen. (You see it and tell me if you disagree.)
Alright friends – start trying to win!
(I’ll end this contest on Wednesday night.)

Very cool! I love the concept. Do they have to stand up in the freezer to keep from leaking?
laceykeigley
The directions say that they do not have to and the lids do seem to fit pretty tightly but so far I’ve been unwilling to take any risks. I just lean them up right until they’re solid and then it doesn’t matter.

These look amazing! Perfect for protein shakes/smoothies!

I’ve never seen any like this. I like that they don’t have those sticks through the middle. Those can be so tricky to get out of their containers without breaking!
laceykeigley
Tricky – as in — impossible! These are MUCH simpler.

Sounds cool. And, no more little pieces of plastic from cutting the other popsicles open. I’m in.
laceykeigley
ugh.
avoiding those annoying pieces of plastic are worth the price of these guys any day.

I actually saw a cool Popsicle van yesterday called locopops dropping off an order at a beer store. I thought it looked interesting so I went to their website. They have fun flavors that I would want to try out. Now I just need these handy dandy ice pop makers.
laceykeigley
Locopops at a beer store?
Where do you live anyway?
______
But send me your fun flavor suggestions – sounds like we need to plan an ice cream face off and a popsicle face off.
Wait – why does it have to be a competition? Let’s just eat popsicles and ice cream together.

i guess beer and popsicles go together? i don’t know, i was just sitting in the car watching the exchange go down. maybe the popsicle truck is a front from something else.
where do I live? i often forget. somewhere hot right now. with lots of students. and progressive people.
and….competitions are just an excuse to completely indulge in multiple flavors.

I know my kids would love homemade popsicles. These would definitely make a great afternoon snack as well. 🙂
laceykeigley
They would.
And since you control what goes in them – they can be as healthy as you feel like making them.

You know we already share in your love for these wonderful things so I don’t need to be included in the giveaway, but I really, really did need a place to comment on that picture. I’m pretty sure it was my very favorite in the whole set. Everything about it. Please tell me that it will be framed somewhere?
Amanda
These have always looked super cool in your kitchen. Hopefully I’ll have my very own set to look super cool in my kitchen!

I guess I’ll be the first since I’m still up packing Popsicle-less lunches! Sign me up for an entry! That’d make an awesome after school snack. Maybe I’ll even share one with the kids;)
