The Virginia mountains were in my rearview mirror all day today.
The sun was shining. The clouds were white. The sky was bright.
It was a good day for a drive.
A couple of the kids were glad to be home. A couple wanted to stay in Virginia forever.
I guess I am glad to have predictable internet back, but I have to admit, I kind of appreciated the forced social media break.
It’s the end of the week and it’s the end of a long day and it’s the end of a favorite family holiday and I am at the end of my energy level.
I loved seeing so many good friends.
And I loved seeing Virginia.
There is just something to be said for living in a place that is so pretty.
It’s like heavenly manna poured out every morning to wake up to this kind of beauty.
We had so many fun adventures and good visits all around.
I’ll revisit my photos this weekend – recruit lots of Emma’s better pictures too – and share some of our favorite moments soon.
But for now we are jumping for joy (and by jumping for joy I actually mean sleeping quietly in our own beds) at being back home and content with the good times we all shared together under that Old Dominion sky.

Dollar General seems to be our new General Store. They are everywhere!
Most Virginians are friendly and would be glad to share their facilities. Just avoid “Posted. No trespassing” signs and “Beware of dog.” Moonshiners and marijuana growers may be near!

On our way home from visiting our son in Boston back in May we got off the interstate and wandered the back roads of Virginia. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Just when we thought we would pop from lack of places to stop there was a Dollar General in the middle of nowhere! 🙂

The backroads of Virginia are the best for wandering.
