The Keigleys Go to Washington

Can I just type Washington, DC and let that suffice?

Ya’ll.

There is just way too much going on in that city.

My sister-in-law said that when her sons were younger and she was homeschooling them that she had always wished she could live in DC for six months just to really get acquainted with the Capitol.

It would take that long.

(Actually, isn’t that a great idea?  To live in a place for a few months?  To really become familiar and to try to squeeze all of the educational value right out of a city?  Is there a kickstarter for that?  A way to crowdsource my life?  I think I’m on to something here.)

DC.

I don’t even know where to begin.

I guarantee I will skip details.

For our younger kids, this was their first official DC visit.

It was all clear skies.  Beautiful.  Cold.

We walked.  We walked a lot.

And we just saw so much.

Lincoln Memorial.

FDR Memorial.

Thomas Jefferson Memorial.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

World War II Memorial.

The Monument.

We toured the Pentagon and visited Old Towne Alexandria and a Torpedo Factory that’s been converted to an art studio.

We visited The Smithsonian Natural History Museum.

We’ve been studying the Holocuast this year in history so we included a visit to the section of the Holocaust Memorial Museum created for younger children entitled Daniel’s Story.  It is impossible to fully comprehend, overwhelming and too important to skip.  It was hard.  And it was only the merest tip of the iceberg.

There’s certainly more – and we plan to visit again – if my brother and sister-in-law will have us invade their lovely abode once more.

Oh – and as we were walking back to our car – the streets were cleared and lo and behold – the President’s motorcade came trucking along at a nice pace and we saw Obama sitting in his limo, head resting on his hand.

It was the perfect end to our DC adventure.

Hi, adorable Keigley family (seriously, yours are the best pics ever)! Hi, smooth – faced Kevin (haven’t see that look yet!), and hi, Danny, long lost cousin! Wish we were north (for just a couple days
;D) to do DC with you guys. Looks like lots of fun! So glad you got the chance to go.

      It was so fun.
I felt pretty guilty for not connecting with the Namie Clan whilst in the area. 🙁 So few days!
