Wildwood Halls of Ivy: Let The School Year Commence
Hello school year.
It has arrived.
This will be the year I teach five children at our home.
That’s a lot of one-room school house learning.
(I’m sure there are homeschool moms who teach more.)
On our first day we did a little pantomiming with friends.
And there were costumes worn to class because, uh, homeschool.
Last year, of course, our curriculum was based on The Little House on the Prairie novels.
This year we’re moving to the Chronicles of Narnia novels. (Kevin keeps joking that next summer, instead of visiting the Laura Ingalls sites in the west, we are all going to Narnia. He should be careful with that line of teasing. I think our kids might believe it’s possible by the completion of these stories.)
My wee kindergartner is thrilled with all things school and has kept the sweetest kid smile on his face for two days.
We are struggling a bit to push ourselves into the routine and structure a productive school day demands. But there is truly such joy in coming alongside these five learners of mine.
We are official. It’s started. The next year. The tick tock of time marching on. A sixth grader. A fifth grader. A fourth grader. A first grader. And a kindergartner. Our full house.
Letters being formed. Numbers being added. Novels being read. New markers unveiled. Blank pages to be filled.
It’s a lovely beginning.

I have had five, at one time, but my first has now gone off to college. : ) But even four is challenging.
A friend of mine is doing the Chronicles of Narnia this year, too. It was very tempting to join them. You will have so much fun. I look forward to reading about your adventures.

Thank you!
And any number of kids to teach is challenging! 🙂
