Here and there. A hodge podge.
This week is ending?
What?
I feel like I should sing that song, “it’s closing time”.
Although I can’t remember any of it except that one line about “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”.
Honesty, I haven’t thought of that song in years, but this summer at our annual July Fourth Pigg River tubing trip, Maggie reminded me. She said I used to sing it to the point of annoyance.
I have no recollection of that. (I’m sorry Maggie that you do.)
Isn’t it a little disconcerting how you can absolutely forget certain parts of your own life?
I guess it’s time I should warn you.
This is neither a concise nor a pre-planned post.
It’s just me.
A post where I sit down and say to myself, “I feel like writing.”
And myself answers, “About what?”
And I respond, “I don’t know. Stuff.”
So.
Stuff. In no order. With head-hurting topic changes.
Co-op is back in session.
I’m so glad. (Although I forgot how tired I get at the end of Wednesdays.)
We have three new windows at our house.
Three new, not broken, windows.
It’s pretty fantastic.
I only like cooking week night meals if I get to fix something different all the time.
Which is fine.
Except it means that often my family is employed as guinea pigs of sorts.
And they sometimes ask, “Can we just have spaghetti? Will you make mac and meat?”
But mostly, the recipes are good.
I check random cookbooks out from the library. I judge the books almost exclusively by their covers.
This week’s cookbook is called The Farm.
We’ve had kielbasa roast potatoes. Baby lettuce salad with avocado dressing. Apple crostata. Magic peach cobbler. Corn and potato salad.
We’ve spent a year celebrating Forty – first Beth, then me.
This weekend, the last Forty occurs.
It’s Gretchen’s turn to hit the big four-oh.
And we are all taking the kids this time – to Florida.
I’ve prepared enough food for a week.
But we aren’t staying a week.
While prepping foods, I discovered a wonderful basic chocolate frosting recipe.
I’ve been eating the leftover frosting by spoonfuls. Small spoonfuls. Really. It’s a baby spoon. I figure that’s better – right?
London is still infatuated with cooking.
She made the Magic Peach Cobbler this week.
And griddle cakes. And seed cakes. Lemonade and multiple dinners completely by herself whilst Kevin was hiking up hillsides in the Himalayas last week.
Scout would love to sell her baked goods. Her scones are particularly tasty.
We’ve been brainstorming names and marketing ideas.
Any thoughts?
The kids and I listened to two great audio books recently.
Holes and Sophia’s War. Completely different from one another. Really compelling stories.
You know what?
I think I’ve exhausted my words and time.
Ah – thanks for indulging me.
I hope your weekend is long and sunny and exactly what you need.

Going to be a total creeper for a minute. I live in FL. If your route takes you through Tallahassee – I'd love to meet your amazing fam! But if it doesn't, that's cool. And if it does, you can still pretend it doesn't. That's what I would do!

Our route took us through Jacksonville – opposite side.
But I think it would be fun to meet, once we pass the first awkward few minutes. hahaha!

I know! My thought process: "Should I even say anything? I shouldn't. I shouldn't. But what if she goes right by my house? OK, I'm saying something…I shouldn't." Your trip looked awesome! I didn't know about the Disney campground! We should look into it – it looks like you got a lot of the Disney experience without shelling out big bucks to go into the parks!

I would try passing an order form around at Shepherding Group, to neighbors, etc. Then she could bake to order without disappointment or waste.

Great idea!
