My Pinterest Test Kitchen. (Don’t) Cook This: Mini German Pancakes
In case you are delusional or I have misrepresented myself or you have never actually dined on fare I’ve prepared or all three – I’m letting you know – I am not an expert chef.
I’m just this person who is nearing forty and has been in a kitchen since I was maybe eleven, prepping both boring and exciting dishes for people that I love.
That’s all.
And I decided to share with you guys the many potentially tasty treats I attempt from my Cook This Pinterest board.
I’ve shared successes with granola bars and cinnamon rolls and blueberry frozen yogurt.
It seems only right to share with you a giant non-success.
Well, maybe not giant – but a non-success all the same.
These little beauties were charming me from the screen.
They look gorgeous – right?
Some mornings I love to surprise our family with a change of menu from our usual breakfast rotation of oatmeal, eggs and yogurt.
So I got up on time and prepared these treats early for my snoozing family.
I’m pretty confident that I followed the directions.
However.
Here’s what my Mini German Pancakes looked like.
I used fresh homemade whipped cream instead of the berry sauce because I know the kiddos adore that whipped cream.
But mine are just not so adorable.
No fluffing here – no convenient pockets to hold the fruit tidily.
And that would have been alright.
I never expect perfection when I bake. (Or when I write or when I teach or when I raise children.)
But these little guys didn’t even taste that great.
And you can get over the cute factor if the taste is fabulous.
But it wasn’t.
They weren’t terrible. That much is true.
The family all expressed their appreciation of my efforts. No one had seen the original photographs except me and my median age eater is consistently young so the appearance really didn’t bother anyone.
The texture tasted off – not quite pancake, not quite egg.
Basically, not quite delicious.
And not quite a dish to repeat.
Keigley Thumbs Vote? About a three thumbs up. (Otto loves to give everything a double thumbs up. And Willow could never give me a complete thumbs down because she doesn’t want to hurt my feelings.)
Please let me know if you’ve had success with this recipe, but if you follow my advice – just skip this one.

We have a recipe for a german pancake type thing that Mark's mom makes (the family is German–it's tried and true)
Sterum (aka: big fluffy pancake)
3 eggs
1 pt. milk
1/4 t. salt
2 T. sugar
3 t. baking powder
Enough flour to make a soft cake batter
Mix ingredients and pour into a hot skillet. Fry; chopping into small pieces. Serve with syrup.
It's simple, easy, and tastes great with syrup.
