Chaos,  HomeLife

this weekend’s miracle.

Last Friday a miracle occurred.

A real live miracle.

A miracle five years in the making.

Or, more like, sixteen years in the making and five years in the un-making.

In fact, it is the un-making that is the actual miracle.

Over sixteen years ago two goofballs with no life experience got married in a cow field in Virginia.

And then those goofballs had the good fortune to each acquire a decent job with two decent salaries.

This good fortune lasted for a few years.  Then a move to another state, two less-than-stellar paying jobs and the cash flow abruptly ended.  But the two goofballs, despite a few years of married life experience, were still indeed goofballs.  And they continued to live a life of accumulating random nothings that they so arrogantly believed they deserved.  They wanted what their parents had without all the years it took to get there.

Yeah.

Those goofballs were us.

Me and Kevin.

We spent years charging stuff on credit cards.   Even though we knew better, we never did better.

Until about five years ago.

We moved to South Carolina, cut up our credit cards and began some hard work.

And here we are.

Finally.

Five years later.

Witnessing a miracle.

On Friday we clicked a few buttons, made a few calls and we officially became something we have long desired to be …..

Debt free.

Debt free!

We have no money, my friends, but we have no debt either.

It’s pretty thrilling.

Shameful to have been where we were – nearly $40,000 in debt with almost nothing to show for it, save a tired and used Suburban with a slow leak in the tire, a broken driver’s side window and crayons melted on to the backseat.

But grateful to be where we are – debt free, owing no man, no credit card company and no bank.

Hallelujah and amen.

You guys have the one thing the people who have the money (or perhaps more accurately, the debt) really want. You have the thing they are missing that often drives them into that debt in a search for some kind of solace in their possessions.

You have an incredible, loving family.

Is it weird for a guy to 'like' this blog? I dunno, maybe Kevin is on his way to revoke my man card, but I love reading here. It's inspiring.

    Congrats on your "undebtedness".

I don't think Kevin can revoke your man card in this situation since it would be a sever conflict of interests!

Thanks for your kind words Lee – really, thanks so much – and I am so glad you read. I wonder what my male demographic looks like! 🙂

I applaud your accomplishment. This is well deserved. However, it does not fit the definition of "miracle."

Oh Jess – you know we always disagree about semantics.
But in this house – we will define miracle this way for now. 🙂

Hooorah! Hizzah! And all other celebratory phrases! What a great, great accomplishment! We are one step away from being completely debt free, and each time we get closer we feel so much better.

Halelujah and Amen!!! Congratulations! That is an exciting place to be. Well, I mean, I don't know yet. But I am imagining. :o)
