those old windows

Hi.  My name is Lacey and I like old windows and low-cost decorating ideas.

And, not that it matters, but for some reason it sort of feels like it does to me even though I know it’s petty and silly, I just want the world to know that I liked old windows before I ever saw them used in a hundred various and clever ways on Pinterest.

It is a great way to repurpose and recycle any old window frames that you have once that you have had brand new ones fitted by a reputable window company. After all, we are supposed to be doing what we can to help the environment and stop things from going to landfills. Using old frames is a great way to add an unusual touch to a room.

Sigh.  [Giant exhale of breath.]  Now I can proceed as planned.

At our other house I had two old windows above our bed as a headboard of sorts.

At the new house I somehow have three old windows and I have tried three different ideas.

One.

A menu board in the dining room.

I placed scrapbook paper behind the window panes and I write the menu each week on the panes with a dry erase marker.  (Next time I do this I’ll spend a little more time considering the paper.  It’s kind of difficult to see the writing when the paper’s print is so busy.)

Sometimes I break the last pane into Saturday/Sunday but lots of times I just leave Sunday off as our meal plans that day are usually the same.  Breakfast – do what you can by yourself.  Lunch – something in the crock pot.  Dinner – Mother May I?

Two.

A recipe board in the kitchen.

I actually really miss our chalkboard cabinet doors.  They were just cool.  And I had a handful of favorite recipes written on the doors.

This window, although a different spin, satisfies that need for me.

Three.

Bedroom decoration.

Okay, so one window still found its way above our bed.  (And we still don’t have a headboard.  Are we the only ones?)

For this window I stapled red burlap (remember the theme?) behind the frame.  As of now I used a dry erase marker to write down a song played at our wedding, but I hope to get more clever sometime soon with some black vinyl letters and a favorite quote or even the same song lyrics but written in a better script.

And that, my friend, is how old windows have decorated our home as of late.

I love the window idea–so creative! I've always wanted to put up a fake window with a picture that made it look like I had an awesome view. Your ideas are pretty cool, though. They make beautiful frames, and I especially love the one with the lyrics.

we don't have a headboard… or a bed skirt… on any of the beds in our house… I have big ambitions for a headboard for our room, but no such follow-through to date… so, you are certainly not alone!
