a little educational facilities tour.

The School of Keigley has officially reopened its doors after a brief hiatus.

(Still trying to rename our school, by the way.  We think we have settled upon a better name option, but all parties involved have not come to complete agreement yet.)

New calendar year, new location.

And let me just say, despite the lower indoor temperatures, I love our little school room.

The color is bright (turquoise) and the space is large and we can make a mess and shut the door without cleaning up when it’s time to eat dinner.

I’m still working on some finer details and have quite a bit more art  to display on the walls, but I just can’t resist sharing what we’ve done already.

There’s a table in the center that seats four and is old enough to be used for painting and crafting and schooling without concern for its overall condition.

In the corner one of our long-lasting metal shelves stands and is the bearer of almost all things school-ish.

I’ve stacked books and layered collections and crafts and organized the mess out of everything that I could.

The deep baskets up top are great for hiding projects and crafts I don’t want to the kids to have daily access to.

I have tried to utilize every portion of the shelf and I even have some leftover space for unpacked boxes and supplies I have probably misplaced in the shuffle.

The shelves are taller than most novels are so I hung baskets and buckets from the upper part of several of the shelves.

I used the little plastic rings of which every baby seems to have a plethora.

The tin cans are filled with Mosely’s felt flower supplies and London’s crocheting supplies.

And the metal bins are holding colored pencils and markers and are easy for the kids to get down by themselves.

On the back of the door I painted chalkboards in the door’s panels and hung up little metal strips for attaching art work above one of the kid’s smaller desks.

I have metal strips attached to the wall near my desk too so I can easily hang up the week’s schedule with clip magnets.

Every inch of space in this room has some purpose.

And I love the fact that there is enough floor space for multiple work stations, as I have multiple students.

Mommy’s desk is supposed to be a no-kids-allowed space.  We’ll see if that can last.

There’s one more shelf that has come in so handy for containing all of our nature books and such.

Plus, a Lego place for young siblings who have no interest in writing and reading as of yet.

(The Lego space has been great too for read-aloud time.  While I read the novel the kids are allowed to quietly build and play with Legos.  It’s amazing how long they will listen to a book when their hands are occupied.)

I am so thankful to have this space right now for the activity that actually takes up most of our days – the education of the band of Keigley.

It is a blessing.

And it makes me glad that it is painted turquoise.

Because that’s a happy color.

And thus concludes your photo-heavy tour of the school room as it now appears.

Thank you for joining us today.

Please keep all arms and legs inside the vehicle until your ride has come to a complete stop.

I love that you put up a map of the U.S.! Once the kids are getting older and know the States well you could put up a world map somewhere! 🙂

I like it Lacey! We re-worked our school room last spring to make it less of a play room and more of a school room. We painted two of the walls lime green and two of the walls orange. The kids picked the colors, and I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but fortunately it has provided a cheerful and creative atmosphere! And my desk was supposed to be off limits too, but it didn't last long! 🙂 Yay for school rooms! 🙂

Love, love, love this room. The fun touches, the bright color, the kid-specific spots. Can't wait to see what it looks like by the end of the year : ). You will do a room reveal then . . . right?
