Keiglets,  Mosely Ella Claiborne

Mosely likes that

We were standing at the checkout counter when Mosely saw it.

A sock monkey backpack.

She tugged at my sleeve.

“Mom – isn’t that so cute?”

I agreed that it was.

Piper pointed at the backpack with admiration as well.

The sock monkey backpack.

But it was on someone else’s back.

And I tried to help the kids to admire the stranger’s accessory in a less obvious manner.

But they are kids, after all.

The lady wearing the sock monkey backpack turned around.

“Can I give your daughter this backpack?”  she asked.

I hesitated, surprised.  I said no, that wasn’t necessary.

But she insisted and eventually I accepted.

And now Mosely is the proud owner of a sock monkey backpack named Roger.

And she cannot stop talking about the kindness of the lady

who literally gave her

the

sock monkey

off her back.

you should've told that lady that you liked her jeans and her car as well, just to see how far the rabbit hole went. just sayin'

Me too. It was really the definition of a random act of kindness – absolutely nothing to gain for her from that transaction – just kindness.

I had a purse once. It was bright green. My daughter loved it, so i gave it to her. Then my sister-in-law loved it so my daughter gave it to her. Then my sister-in-law's friend loved it, so guess what, yes, she gave it to her. From what i understand it was given away yet again with the idea that whoever loves it gets it. As far as i know it is still going! Kind of a neat analogy for love, huh.
