five finds friday (meadowlark and a ryder photo and let’s talk whole 30)
It’s been a while – hasn’t it? I forget when I last did a Five Finds post.
I’m going to try. It’s been a great week, but full as ever.
I hired an intern for Travelers Rest Here. What a great thing that is going to be! Can you hire an intern for regular life too? Are there interns out there who want to do my laundry or plan my meals? Interns that specialize in home pedicures or lesson plans? Interns that run by the bank and pick up books at the library and mow the grass? Interns who manage my texts in a timely fashion for me?
funny
I watched Otto pick out his clothes one day this week. Saw him pull on a pair of camo pants and noticed that they are far too short to really fit correctly any longer.
“Son – you’ve really grown since last fall. Those pants are definitely too short now,” I told him.
He eyed me seriously.
“Well,” he said. “It was my resolution you know.”
“What?” I asked.
“My resolution. To grow taller.”
I mean, hey, when you set your mind to something – anything can happen. Even growing taller.
fashionable
It’s still really warm outside and tank tops are more the order of the day than sweaters.
But you guys. Won’t it be so much wonderful when sweaters are back in our closets and you can basically wrap up in a cozy blanket all day long and wear it around the house and around the store and everyone thinks it’s just fashionable and not lazy?
Hooray for sweater season.
flavorful
The reasons are many and I’ll likely expound later. But this weekend I am going to begin the process of trying out this Whole 30 eating plan. Yeah, I know it’s not the beginning of a month. But I’m doing it anyway.
I have never ever in my life maintained or attempted any sort of restriction eating plan. I love sugar. I lack self discipline, particularly when it comes to food. Whatever will I do?
Send me all your favorite Whole 30 recipes – let’s see what happens, shall we?
faithful
Thursday was our first day at Meadowlark Collective, the homeschool co-op that several of my friends and I have worked to develop and begin this school year.
What a beautiful work in progress. What a lovely example of God’s timing and grace and mercy. How amazing and wonderful that other parents said “yes” and jumped on board with our idea.
How sweet to watch more than 30 kids of so many ages play outside during lunch – engaging with one another from kindergarten to tenth grade. What a pleasure to talk literature with my eager class – to share about archetypes and ideas. To talk about Bilbo Baggins and Percy Shelley.
How exciting to have my fifth graders come home – anxious to do ALL the homework, thrilled to have classwork and book darts and organized folders from her teacher.
Good gifts.
feels
During the day while we were at Meadowlark, Ryder apparently missed us.
That dog is such a good fella.
He sleeps in between our bedrooms to offer maximum security. He’s got our backs, that Ryder.
Our neighbor sent me this photo of how Ryder pretty much spent a large part of his day.
Waiting on the steps for his favorites to return.
Bless that giant dog’s heart.
