spinning plates ….
Imagine a monkey standing on one leg. Imagine he is spinning six plates on his left hand. Imagine he is also eating his dinner. Furthermore, someone is pelting him with water balloons. Additionally, he is reading a novel out loud to a room full of other monkeys. All while standing on hot coals with his bare monkey feet.
Is that monkey you just imagined in your mind wearing my face?
Because that’s how I’m seeing myself this past week. (Or – maybe past two weeks, more accurately.)
There’s a lot going down and going around and going on and going up and going all around. Some of it is educating five distinctly and wildly different human beings. (But humans who are just legitimately some of my very favorite people. Very favorite.) Some of it is house hunting for the first time in a climate where people who are wanting homes vastly outnumber people who are selling homes. Some of it is the holiday season all by itself. Some of it is a new venture that has me treading water that I’m anxious to share more about but also anxious to get myself together before I share too much. Some of it is side hustle in editing and freelance writing. Some of it is because I’m sleepy.
And so I have some fun upcoming posts planned about some people I love doing cool things and some products I love for Christmas gifts and some fun giveaways for YOU GUYS and finally a review of that InstantPot, but for today, I just have some ramblings.
One, I continue to have really generous friends who think about me and my family and love us in the most practical and fun ways.
Two, this weekend we chose the most ridiculous movie to watch. I am saving you all the cost of a Redbox rental – even if you are using a free code. I’m just saving you an hour and half of your life. Don’t bother with Nine Lives. Seriously. It’s too weird. I mean, I knew it was a movie where a man became a cat. I wasn’t tricked into watching it. But I saw Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Garner and Christopher Walken. I felt lulled into hopefulness by that cast of quality names. Who did they owe for being coerced into partnering with that cinematic disaster?
Three, Piper Finn got the cutest little haircut last week. Totally her idea and I think it fits her sparkly little self perfectly. (Also, I think she looks like Tinkerbell.) And more also, we’ve been all about Peter Pan for a while because we are listening to the audio versions of a series of books about Peter Pan that are just SO well done. Peter and the Starcatchers and Peter and the Shadow Thieves. Great writing, compelling story, brave characters.
Four, our house is a little too stoked about the copious amounts of food we are prepping this week for Thanksgiving. We’re averaging about one dessert per person. One side dish too I think. It’s London’s dream day she says. “Mom, it’s a day dedicated just to food!” I do think maybe she is undereducated about the holiday’s significance, but – eh, I think she understands what matters most.
Five, last night I wore a sweater. And then another sweater on top of that. Argh. I forgot how cold our house gets. I think often it is colder IN our home than outside. I already received an email from Duke Power stating that I can expect a higher bill because the temperatures have dropped. Uh, thanks Duke Power. I am aware of the lower temperatures and I appreciate your forewarning me to prepare me to fork over all the monies this month to set my thermostat on 60 – for the love!
Six, everyone’s favorite nephew and grandson spent the night at our house this weekend. Toddlers are fun and cute — and they sleep through the night!
