we all scream.
Kevin has always been our family’s largest consumer of ice cream
He will probably one day lose that title to a teenage son or two.
However. Right now I’m afraid he might lose it to me.
Ice cream has never been my top dessert choice. I’d rather have pie or cake or pudding.
Until now.
Every summer we pull out our faded yellow plastic ice cream bucket with the goofy penguin printed on the side and load it up with rock salt and ice and wait all afternoon for our cold dessert. (The noise. The steady upkeep of ice.)
It was worth it. But it was so much work that homemade ice cream was a rare summer treat. An occasion.
So we resorted to searching the ingredient list on less delicious ice cream at the grocery store at nearly $5 a half gallon.
And then one day I visited my friend.
She was making ice cream.
On a regular day.
On her kitchen counter.
Without rock salt and without excessive noise and without planning.
In about twenty minutes.
What?
Hello Cuisanart Ice Cream Maker.
Where have you been all of my life?
I knew it was a dangerous purchase.
But I made it anyway.
And you know what?
I do not regret it.
You guys.
It’s awesome.
We’ve tried the peanut butter cup and chocolate variety.
And classic vanilla.
But I’ve never tasted better ice cream than the homemade mint chocolate chip.
It is almost ridiculous how delicious it is.
And it is definitely risky.
Because I want to eat it every day.
It’s a marvelous, completely unnecessary, little appliance.
And, next to my Ninja, it’s my favorite piece of kitchen gear.
You don’t need one guys.
No one needs one.
And – ice cream made with our fresh raw milk from a farmer down the road with just a few additional simple ingredients feels like an affordable luxury.
Shoot. It practically feels like health food.
At least, that’s what I’ve been telling myself.

What?
I need a new thrift store. Mine is not selling ice cream makers!

I bought two of those at thrift stores in ONE day! My question was ‘WHY did anyone get rid of them???’ We love them and can really make ice cream when our family of 16 is all here.

TWO? In ONE day?
That is the find of the year!
Oh – and I purchased some D3 this week! (Forgot to take it yesterday!) 🙂
Lana
Crazy right? And that was the thing I had in mind when we went out that day. A sweet blessing from the Lord.
I hope the D3 is a help to you. My 31 yr old daughter is super deficient right now too.

Did you know you can buy an ice cream maker attachment for your kitchenaid mixer? I bought one of those dangerous things, and we love it!

I have heard such a thing! But, alas, I do not own a KitchenAid mixer. 🙂
