a long-winded build up to some Fourth photos. that’s all.
Yesterday was what London calls a “home day”.
It’s just like what it sounds like – a day where we spend every waking hour at home.
These are her absolute favorite type of days.
We stayed home primarily because we had no access to a car.
Which was fine.
To be fair, the kids stayed home all day. Kevin and I actually enjoyed a now-rare date night.
The kids and I had plans to attend a library event in the afternoon but both cars were occupied so we skipped out on the library event. Which was fine also, except now our library books are overdue. Again.
(I’ve made a basic peace treaty with the library this summer. And with Andy too, I guess. Well. Sort of. I do stall pretty well when he’s the one at the front desk, hoping he’ll be called out to do something else before I approach his station. So far it’s worked in my favor.)
But, and my real point here, all that extra unplanned home time allowed me to download some July Fourth photos.
And that’s what I want to share now.
The sweetness of July Fourth at the farm.
The annual kickball game.
Us.
Verses Them.
It was so much fun to be completely outnumbered by kids this year.
The kids created super hero characters for themselves this week.
They were thrilled to have a reason to jump off things and tell people to freeze.
We were thrilled to see how adorable they looked in homemade felt masks.
The day was long and hot and sweaty and beautiful.
We hugged the necks of familiar faces that we only get the pleasure of seeing once a year.
We let Bergen drink his own Sunkist soda – straight from the can.
The fireworks seemed even more stellar than usual.
The sparklers seemed just as dangerous and unnerving in the hands of a multitude of small barefoot children.
Ahhh – I love how one single day can make you believe, at least for an afternoon, that all is right in the world.

Yes, it was a fun year. I think a whole other post is in order for the grand slip n slide. And I like Colton's face in the kickball photo.

I definitely agree that it does. I will soon steal some of your photos, as I took none myself.
